This week’s watchlist features five films that explore very different sides of love, family and the choices people make when life pushes them to their limits. Here are five Nollywood movies to add to your weekend watchlist.
The First Ministry
What happens when a man becomes so committed to his ministry that he begins to neglect the family he is supposed to be leading
Pastor Etim, played by Michael Ejoor, runs a successful online and home-based prayer ministry that attracts thousands of people. His dedication to his congregation appears admirable at first, but his constant availability to his virtual church begins to create cracks in his marriage and family.
His wife, Bunmi, played by Ekama Etim-Inyang, struggles with being pushed into the background as her husband's public ministry takes over their home.
The First Ministry explores the difficult question of where responsibility to one's family fits when faith and public service demand everything.

2. Before Midnight
If you enjoy modern Cinderella stories with romance and plenty of family drama, Before Midnight might be worth adding to your list.
After losing her mother, Derin, played by Efe Irele, is left under the care of her cruel aunt, Madam Vero, and her cousin, Mercedes. Treated more like a servant than a member of the family, Derin is also blamed for her mother's death while her maternal inheritance is secretly being used to fund their lifestyle.
Things begin to change when she meets Kola, played by Timini Egbuson. Initially sceptical about love, Kola becomes determined to help Derin navigate her difficult circumstances. As their relationship develops, both characters are forced to confront their emotional baggage and reconsider what they believe about love.

3. A Summer for Fountain
Fountain has built her life around logic, structure and predictability. Love, however, is about to disrupt all of it.
A career-driven woman with a carefully planned life, Fountain returns to Lagos after her grandmother, Mama May, suffers a health crisis. Played by Joke Silva, Mama May's presence gives Fountain the opportunity to slow down and reconsider the life she has built around work, safety and emotional distance.
Her relationship with her fiancé, Uche, played by Kunle Remi, is practical and predictable. Then comes David, played by Deyemi Okanlawon, an emotionally open man who challenges Fountain's carefully constructed defences.
As she confronts her grandmother's illness and the possibility of losing someone she loves, Fountain must decide whether a predictable life is worth sacrificing genuine emotional connection.

4. The Price of Love
How far would you go to save the person you love
The Price of Love follows Samuel, played by Michael Dappa, and Eno, played by Ekama Etim-Inyang, a struggling couple whose lives are turned upside down when Samuel is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness requiring an expensive kidney transplant.
With ₦30 million needed for his treatment and every conventional option seemingly exhausted, Eno finds herself facing an impossible choice. Her desperation pushes her towards decisions that could permanently change their relationship.
The film explores love, sacrifice, desperation and the consequences of the choices people make when they believe there is no other way out. And with a major twist waiting towards the end, this is one where going in without knowing too much is probably the best way to watch it.

5. Bowale
Bowale, which also means Come Home, is a story about injustice, second chances and the difficult road towards forgiveness.
After spending 30 years in prison for a crime he did not commit, an innocent man is released into a society that continues to judge him because of his criminal record. With little hope of rebuilding his life, he gets an unexpected opportunity when a successful businesswoman hires him as her personal driver.
Their professional relationship gradually develops into an unlikely emotional connection, giving both characters an opportunity to confront their own wounds. But when the truth behind his wrongful imprisonment begins to emerge, an old family grudge threatens to reopen wounds that have remained buried for decades.
With themes of generational trauma and forgiveness, Bowale brings a heavier dose of drama to this week's watchlist.
So, whether you're in the mood for family drama, romance, emotional storytelling or a story about getting a second chance, there is something to pick from this weekend.
