Davido has officially been named one of the 2026 inductees into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame (BMEWOF), further cementing his place as one of Afrobeats’ most influential global figures.
The Nigerian superstar joins a new class of honorees that includes Ludacris, Bishop Paul S. Morton, and the late former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson. The induction ceremony is scheduled to take place on June 1, 2026, in Atlanta’s Historic Westside along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Northside Drive, directly outside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Established in 2021 by the Black American Music Association and the Georgia Entertainment Caucus, the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame was created to celebrate Black excellence and honor artists, entertainers, executives, and cultural pioneers whose work has shaped global culture.
Located in historic Downtown Atlanta, the landmark features bronze-and-gold sidewalk medallions known as “Crown Jewels of Excellence,” each dedicated to an inductee whose influence has left a lasting imprint on music and entertainment. Visitors can also scan QR codes attached to the plaques to learn more about each honoree’s story and cultural impact
Past inductees into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame include iconic names such as Michael Jackson, Beyoncé, Usher, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Tyler Perry, Stevie Wonder, and Quincy Jones.
For Davido, the recognition carries deeper symbolism beyond another career milestone.
Although he is globally recognized as one of Nigeria’s biggest musical exports, the Afrobeats star was born in Atlanta. His induction into a cultural landmark in his birth city while representing Nigerian music and African identity reflects the growing relationship between Afrobeats and the wider Black diaspora.
The moment also continues the Walk of Fame’s acknowledgment of African music’s influence on global culture. Fela Kuti, the pioneer of Afrobeat, was previously honored in 2022, making Davido the second Afrobeats artist to receive the recognition.
However, Davido’s induction marks a different moment for the genre. While Fela Kuti’s honor celebrated a foundational legacy, Davido becomes the first contemporary Afrobeats superstar to receive the recognition while still actively dominating charts, touring globally, and expanding the commercial reach of African music in real time.
The announcement arrives during another major year for the singer, following his historic Coachella debut, his 15-year anniversary celebrations in music, and the continued success of his album 5IVE.
As Afrobeats continues to expand globally, Davido’s induction into the Black Music and Entertainment Walk of Fame stands as another reminder that African artists are no longer just influencing the culture from afar, they are now central to it.
