Dapper Live’s ambitious stage production Trench Symphony: The Dapper Live Experience has officially entered the record books. On March 9, 2026, Guinness World Records confirmed the concert as the largest orchestra ever assembled for an Afrobeats concert, marking a major milestone for Nigeria’s evolving live music scene.
The record was achieved during the December 16, 2025 edition of Trench Symphony, held at the Balmoral Eko Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. The groundbreaking event brought together more than 80 orchestra members, performing alongside leading Afrobeats and Fuji artists in a large-scale production that blended classical orchestration with contemporary African sounds.
The achievement places the live event division of Dapper Group at the center of a historic moment for Afrobeats performance.
Reimagining Afrobeats With Orchestral Power
Conceived and executive produced by Damilola “Dapper” Akinwunmi, the CEO of Dapper Group, Trench Symphony was designed as an experimental stage experience that pushes Afrobeats beyond its traditional performance format.
Instead of relying solely on DJs and backing tracks, a common approach in modern Afrobeats concerts, the show introduced a full orchestra into the live performance structure. The goal was to elevate street-rooted sounds through the scale and sophistication of classical instrumentation.
The result was a production that fused orchestral arrangements with the rhythmic energy of Afrobeats and Fuji music, creating a concert experience that felt both theatrical and culturally rooted.
According to Akinwunmi, the idea behind the project was never simply about setting a record.
“Trench Symphony was born from a simple but powerful belief: that African music, in its truest and most authentic form, belongs on the world’s biggest stages,” he said. “We did not set out simply to break a record; we set out to create a defining cultural moment.”
A Lineup of Afrobeats and Fuji Stars
The concert featured performances from several rising stars in Nigeria’s contemporary music scene, including T.I Blaze, TML Vibez, Bhadboi OML, Rybeena, Lasmid, Cazulee, Kashcoming, and DWillsHarmony.
Adding another layer of cultural depth, Fuji legends King Saheed Osupa and KS1 Malaika also appeared as special guest performers, bridging generations of Nigerian music on one stage.
The orchestral direction of the performance was handled by musical director Bazzman Sam, with conductors Fatola and Clintonic leading the ensemble.
Behind the scenes, the production involved an extensive creative team. Director K oversaw the show’s creative direction, while renowned producer Temitayo “Tee Y Mix” Ibitoye supervised the sound engineering to ensure a precise balance between orchestral instruments and live vocal performances.
The event was directed by Dunni Akinwunmi, with Mojoyin of Owambe Events serving as show producer, coordinating the large-scale logistics required for a record-setting concert.
A Cultural Experiment on a Grand Stage
Beyond the record itself, Trench Symphony represents a broader creative experiment within the Afrobeats ecosystem. The concept reimagines Nigerian street music within a theatrical, orchestral format, blending raw urban sounds with the structured elegance of classical performance. In doing so, the project highlights how Afrobeats continues to evolve as a genre capable of adapting to new performance environments.
The December edition also demonstrated the genre’s intergenerational reach. While younger fans celebrated the performances of emerging artists, many were also introduced to Fuji classics through the appearances of Osupa and Malaika, suggesting the enduring influence of older Nigerian music traditions.
What Comes Next
Following the official Guinness World Records confirmation, Dapper Live has announced plans to take Trench Symphony on the road.
The production is expected to tour 10 Nigerian states in 2026 before expanding internationally, with planned stops in London, Birmingham, Dublin, Paris, and Canada.
If successful, the tour could transform the record-breaking show into one of the most ambitious Afrobeats live productions to travel globally.
For now, the recognition cements Trench Symphony as a landmark moment for Afrobeats performance, one that places Lagos firmly at the center of innovation within the global music industry.
