Nigerian artist and entrepreneur Mr Eazi has successfully wrapped up the first edition of 1v1 Africa, a grassroots football competition designed to spotlight street talent across the continent.
Launched in February 2026 and powered by betPawa, 1v1 Africa debuted in Nigeria as a high-energy, one-on-one football challenge focused on skill, creativity, and individual brilliance. The tournament culminated in a live grand finale held on March 28 at Astro Soccer in Ikoyi, Lagos, bringing together some of the most exciting emerging football talents.
How 1v1 Africa Works
The competition drew massive interest, with over 55,000 entries submitted from across Africa. From this pool, 32 finalists were selected to compete in a knockout format built around intense one-on-one matchups, where players relied on dribbling, flair, and technical ability to outplay their opponents.
The format places emphasis on individual skill rather than team play, making it a unique platform that celebrates street football culture and creativity. This approach has resonated strongly with young players, particularly those outside formal football systems.
Who Won the 1v1 Africa Final
In the final match, Kosisochukwu Pascal Maduka, also known as Stanley Uwagboe (@Stanbig4L), emerged as the winner after defeating Michael Christopher. He walked away with the ₦10 million grand prize, while the runner-up earned ₦5 million. The second runner-up received ₦2.5 million, and the third runner-up took home ₦1 million.
Beyond the top placements, the tournament also ensured that all participants were rewarded. Quarter-finalists earned ₦700,000 each, players eliminated in the Round of 16 received ₦500,000, and those knocked out in the first round were awarded ₦250,000. A standout performer was also recognized with a ₦1 million prize for Best Goalkeeper.
One of the defining features of the event was its “instant credit” system, where all 32 finalists reportedly received their prize money immediately after their matches. This approach reinforced the competition’s commitment to transparency and immediate reward for talent.
The final event blended sport with entertainment, creating an electrifying atmosphere for both players and spectators. Afrobeats star Tekno co-hosted the event, adding energy and showmanship, while Mr Eazi himself took to the stage to engage with participants and fans.
